(EN) Museu Escola Saíra Apunhalada (MESA) is currently under development. We are an open-air museum that integrates art, ecology, and agriculture. At this stage, we are building our infrastructure while maintaining an agroecological garden. People willing to engage in hands-on work, with an interest in sustainability and an affinity for art, are always welcome. WWOOF Guidelines: MESA is an art museum under construction and, as its main focus is the climate emergency, it includes spaces dedicated to organic agriculture. However, activities are not limited to farming and may include support with construction, artistic activities, and other tasks as needed. We do not offer a structured learning program. Sustainable practices are present in all activities, but volunteers will experience them in a spontaneous, non-programmed way. Therefore, there is no fixed routine: activities vary according to the needs of building and maintaining the museum during the stay. We do not provide cooking or room cleaning services. Woofers are responsible for these tasks or may hire local help if they prefer. During the stay, the project’s leadership team may be temporarily absent, but volunteers’ safety and support will always be ensured by project staff.

My stay at MESA (my first WWOOF experience) was beyond every expectation and I had a truly wonderful time there. Eider and his daughter Rafaela are the most welcoming, kind, warm, and lovely hosts you can wish for. The level of care was exceptional and the learnings and education high during the entire stay. It was a truly inspiring week for me, learning from and with the nature, the co-workers, farming neighbors and everyone else involved in building the Museu. The accommodation was perfect, which was only surpassed by all the amazing meals we cooked and ate together which many times came from veggies and fruits grown just a few meters away. I lacked absolutely nothing! I can only highly recommend this experience and am already now sure to come back again very soon. Thanks once again for everything 🫶

I don’t even know where to start… The time we spend with Eider and Rafaela was truly amazing and absolutely educational! Not only, that we learned a lot about sustainable agricultur, the consequences of monocultures and how to plant and harvest different kind of vegetables and fruits, we also spent many hours together cooking, talking and they even took us to different kind of events and activities, which were always fun and very educational. I have never felt more welcome! They picked us up from the airport, which was really generous and helped us with every kind of issues! We always cooked freshly with the vegetables from the farm, it was always delicious and more than enough (I ate soo much, because it was so tasty). I would highly recommend to visit the farm and the museum, especially if you’d like to learn more about sustainability and agriculture and like to spend time in nature!
