By training, I'm an Agricultural Engineer, but I jokingly call myself the caretaker of my family's farm. We're located in the buffer zone of the Serra do Mar State Park, at the foot of the Corcovado Peak – what you might call "the middle of the woods." I live alone, but I enjoy being surrounded by animals and plants, so I've made sure my life is full of them. Since 2013, I've been managing two different agroforestry systems: one with an emphasis on various fruit trees, and another focused on bananas and coffee (both fully integrated with the surrounding forest). I also maintain a small vegetable garden near the house for my own consumption. I love exchanging knowledge and experiences about agroecology. A plant family that has fascinated me since 1996 is orchids. I started learning more about them during my university years. Over time, I've built a collection that turned into an orchid house, which has followed me to every place I've lived. The farm is also home to many chickens, dogs, and a cat, but what we have the most of here are native stingless bees. Meliponiculture (stingless beekeeping) is my main activity, both in production and education, and I believe it's the most significant skill I can share with WWOOFers. I also bake sourdough bread in a wood-fired oven. Activities for WWOOFers: The daily tasks here are defined by current priorities. This includes the daily care of the animals, various management activities in the agroforests and with the bees (which are specific to each season), and general farm maintenance. Accommodation and Meals: There is a complete, separate house on the farm where WWOOFers will be accommodated. I will provide all the necessary food for my guests, and we can prepare our meals together. Surroundings: There are very beautiful beaches approximately 4km away, a waterfall is just a 15-minute walk from the house, and we are close to the starting point of the trail up Corcovado Peak. (Heads up: this is a beautiful hike but it requires hiring a registered guide, making a reservation in advance, and being in good physical shape!).
